Is Hostinger down? How to check the status (and what to do)

A 2-minute way to tell whether Hostinger is really down or it's just your site: check the official status page, test from outside your network, read the common causes, and know exactly when to open support.
The 2-minute check
When a site won't load it's tempting to assume the host is down, but most of the time it's something closer to you — your connection, your DNS, a cache, or the site itself. Work through these in order and you'll know within a couple of minutes where the problem is.
- Open Hostinger's status page (below). If there's an active incident, it's Hostinger — wait it out.
- Load your site from a different network: mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or a free "is it down" checker. If it loads for them, the outage is on your side.
- Try hPanel itself at hpanel.hostinger.com. If hPanel works but your site doesn't, the platform is fine and the issue is your site or domain.
Check Hostinger's official status page
Hostinger publishes live system status at statuspage.hostinger.com (also linked from the help centre). It lists each part of the platform — websites, hPanel, email, VPS, DNS — and shows any current or recent incident with timestamps.
This is the single source of truth. If the component you use shows an incident, there's nothing to fix on your end; subscribe to updates on that page and wait for the all-clear. If everything is green, the problem is almost certainly local to your site or network.
Is it Hostinger, or just your site?
If the status page is green but your site still won't load, narrow it down:
| Symptom | Likely cause | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Only you can't reach the site | Your network, DNS cache or a browser cache | Try mobile data, another device, or an incognito window |
| "This site can't be reached" / DNS error | DNS or nameservers | Check the domain's DNS in hPanel; recent changes take up to 24h |
| 500 / 503 error page | Your site's code or resource limits | hPanel error logs; deactivate the last plugin you changed |
| Blank white page | A PHP error or failed plugin/theme update | Turn on error display or read the PHP error log |
| Site slow, not fully down | Caching off, heavy plugins, resource limits | See the speed guide below |
| VPS unreachable | The service, firewall or the VPS itself | Reboot from hPanel; check the firewall rules you set |
If it's your shared or WordPress site
When hPanel works but your website throws an error, the cause is usually something that changed recently.
- Undo the last change. A plugin or theme update, an edit to .htaccess or wp-config.php, or a new snippet is the most common trigger. Roll it back first.
- Deactivate plugins. Rename the plugins folder over SFTP/File Manager to switch them all off; if the site returns, re-enable them one by one to find the culprit.
- Restore a backup. In hPanel open Files → Backups and restore the most recent working copy. Business and Cloud plans keep daily backups.
- Read the logs. hPanel's error logs name the file and line that failed, which turns guessing into a fix.
If it's your VPS
A VPS is your own machine, so "down" usually means a service stopped, a firewall rule locked you out, or the server needs a reboot — not a Hostinger outage.
- Reboot the VPS from hPanel if SSH won't respond. It clears stuck processes without touching your data.
- Use the browser terminal in hPanel if SSH is refused — often a firewall rule or a changed SSH port is blocking you.
- Check the web server and your app are running (for example `systemctl status nginx`) and restart them if they've stopped.
- Look at disk and memory. A full disk or an out-of-memory process takes a server down quietly; `df -h` and `free -m` show it.
When (and how) to contact Hostinger
Open support when the status page shows green, you've ruled out your network, and your own checks haven't fixed it — or when the status page shows an incident and you want updates.
Live chat is in hPanel and runs 24/7. Have ready: your domain, the exact error text, when it started, and the last change you made. That detail gets you past the first-reply questions and to an answer faster.
Reduce the next outage
You can't prevent a platform incident, but you can make your own site far less likely to go down and faster to recover when it does.
- Keep auto-backups on, and download one before any big change.
- Update WordPress, themes and plugins on a staging copy first, not live.
- Stay within your plan's resource limits — upgrade before you're hitting them daily.
- On a VPS, set up a firewall and automatic security updates so one bad night doesn't lock you out.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if Hostinger is down right now?
Check Hostinger's status page at statuspage.hostinger.com. It shows live incidents for websites, hPanel, email, VPS and DNS. If your component is green there, the problem is almost certainly your site or your network, not Hostinger.
My site is down but hPanel works. What does that mean?
The platform is fine and the issue is specific to your site or domain. Usual causes are a recent plugin or theme change, a DNS change that hasn't propagated, or hitting a resource limit. Roll back your last change and check the error logs.
Why is my site down only for me?
If others can reach it, it's local: your network, a DNS cache or a browser cache. Try mobile data, another device, or an incognito window, and flush your DNS cache.
How do I fix a Hostinger VPS that's not responding?
Reboot it from hPanel, then use the browser terminal if SSH is refused (often a firewall rule). Check that your web server and app are running and that the disk isn't full.
How long do Hostinger outages last?
Most incidents are resolved within minutes to a couple of hours, and the status page posts updates throughout. Subscribe to the affected component there so you're notified when it's fixed.
